Consistency
Today wraps up four full weeks of running every day. Four weeks! I’m so proud of myself.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about consistency. A long time ago, I learned about a man who ran the same route along the beach every single day and had been doing so for years. He became a legend of sorts—both locally and within the running community. People traveled to join him on his runs.
I looked him up recently. At the beginning of this year, he hit 50 years. 50! For the last 50 years, he has run the same route every single day. He’s married couples during these runs, saved people from drowning. I think there’s something remarkable that comes from simply showing up that, too often, I underestimate. Rarely do I ever do something that’s remarkable when it stands on its own. But every day, I can do things that become remarkable when they add together over time.
Today’s run was short, just a quick mile and a half. But it also completed a full month of consistent effort. And it’s starting to add up.
