Bumblebee Blessing
I stood to stretch at my favorite lookout, taking in the golden sunset.
A bumble bee crossed my field of vision, then returned in a double take.
She bobbed up and down, left to right. Slowly, she circled me, her buzzing growing louder, more persistent. Urgent.
Another joined her. They circled each other while rotating around me. Each of us in orbit. Moon, planet, sun.
I noticed a small spider on the chainlink, gently crawling along, her silhouetted legs performing a delicate ballet.
The bees returned to my consciousness. Buzzing in and out.
A third joined, and a fourth. Double helixes spiraling. They took turns approaching me, inspecting me. One returned to my left ear again and again. What did she want to tell me?
A woman appeared. We chatted, briefly. I invited her to join our group run next week. She told me about a race series she was training for. We departed ways, hopeful to cross paths again.
My attention returned to the bees, but they were gone. Their fleeting dance a mysterious blessing.
What a gift it is to be alive in this great, glowing world.
